Highland Lakes Camping
Highland Lakes are located at the end of Highland Road, about 6 miles south of Highway 4. The Highland Road junction is one mile west of Ebbetts Pass. There are two campgrounds in the area, Bloomfield Campground, a mile from Highway 4, and Highland Lakes Campground near the end of the road at Highland Lakes.
The gravel road to Highland Lakes is steep in places but can be negotiated by 2-wheel drive vehicles. At one point it fords a stream which may present a challenge to low vehicles in the spring and early summer.
A curiosity about the two lakes which rest end to end: one drains south to the Stanislaus River while the other drains north to the Mokelumne River.
